David Meredith Heft, Jr passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at his home in Frederick, MD.
Born on March 20, 1962, Dave was the only child of David Meredith and Barbara Ann (Pincavitch) Heft. Dave grew up in Plymouth Meeting, PA where he graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in 1980. He earned his Bachelor of Science in 1984 from Villanova University. Always striving to learn, Dave went on to earn a master’s degree in engineering from Penn State University in 1989 and an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2002. At his first job in State College, PA he met the love of his life, Joan Alison Ball. They were married on May 25, 1986 and welcomed twins, Alison Marie and Paul Benjamin, on March 3, 1987.
Over the span of Dave’s career, he worked primarily on command and control systems, including the TDRSS satellite system, for the engineering firms HRB-Singer, ISC Defense Systems, GE-M&DSO, and Herley-Vega Systems, where he became the Director of Engineering. In 2005 he joined Weinschel Associates, a division of nVision Industries, as part business owner and Operations Manager. There he rose to the challenges of growing a business and providing for the employees.
After several years of moves and job changes the family settled in Lititz, PA in 1993. Dave’s work took him on many travels around the world, and Joan was fortunate enough to join him on a couple of international ventures. Dave was also a dedicated father, supporting the kids’ many interests and activities through his presence at soccer games, band competitions, youth retreats and countless other events.
Music was always an integral part of Dave’s life. As a student, he learned to play saxophone and guitar. He joined the praise band of the Lititz United Methodist church where he developed a new interest learning to play the bass. Before leaving Lititz, Dave was also part of a community jazz band, one of his favorite music genres.
Shortly after moving to Maryland and joining Frederick Christian Fellowship Church, Dave started serving with the production team in numerous capacities, including camera operation and soundboard. He was also one of the bass players for the worship team and more recently made a few appearances trying out newly acquired keyboard skills.
One of Dave’s greatest joys in life was being called “Opa”, becoming a grandfather to Henry (3 years old) and John (16 months). Their favorite things to do together were to drive Opa’s model trains, play guitars and keyboards, and share snack time.
Dave will be greatly missed by his wife, Joan; his parents, Dave & Barbara; his son, Paul; his daughter Alison and her husband Daniel Richard Preston; his grandsons, Henry Daniel & John David Preston; and numerous other extended family members, in-laws, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 2PM at Frederick Christian Fellowship Church (South Building), 10142 Hansonville Rd., Frederick, MD 21702.
In appreciation of the care he received at the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute, Dave has requested that memorial donations be directed there. Donations can be mailed to the James M.
