Ross was born in Hancock, MD on June 21, 1939. He died in the Emergency Department of Meritus Medical Center on October 22, 2019. He was the son of the late James J. Mazingo and Nellie Lenore Cubbage Mazingo. Ross was a 1957 graduate of Hancock High School. He served in the US Army. Ross worked in environmental services at the former Washington County Hospital until his retirement.
Ross loved music and had a lifelong dream of being a famous song writer He did have a couple songs recorded and was always so proud of that. Ross was a very quiet and gentle man and always had a smile. His last few years had become difficult for him as he struggled with his health. We are very appreciative of all his caregivers and friends who helped him so that he could stay in his apartment. We are extremely grateful to the Department of Social Services and his case managers who worked with him diligently to provide assistance. Jackie Knight (Kate's granddaughter) was very special to Ross and kept him on track as well. She is truly an angel who touched Ross' life.
Ross is survived by his brothers James O. Mazingo and wife Barbara of Mesa, AZ, Dennis G. Mazingo and wife Ann of Hagerstown, MD, and Calvin Hoffman and his wife Velda of Berkeley Springs, WV. He is also survived by many friends from the Esther (Kate) Forcino family who had become his family as well.
We are extremely grateful to the Department of Social Services and his case managers who worked with him diligently.
Ross is also survived by many nieces and nephews. It is very ironic that on the day of Ross' death, his late brother Jeff had a great granddaughter born to his grandson, Jared Cubbage.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Jeffrey Mazingo, and older half siblings, Patsy Hoffman Koch, Roger Hoffman and Foster Hoffman.
Per Ross's request, his body was cremated. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
