Obituary

Obituary for Gloria Dean Miller

Gloria Dean Miller, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Meritus Medical Center.

She was born on September 8, 1939 in Hagerstown to the late Morris V. Shank and Mable Virginia (Hess) Shank.

She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School in 1957. She worked in retail for various employers (including Newberry's) until her retirement from Marianne's Dress Shop in the Valley Mall. She enjoyed going to the Williamsport Redmen and the Issac Walton Club, Berkeley County, WV with her husband, John. She also attended all the sporting, dance and fishing events for her grandchildren Katherine and Jonathan.

She is survived by her son, John M. Miller, and his wife, Sally; her grandson, Jonathan R. Miller, and his wife, Jessica; granddaughter Katherine D. Davis, and her husband, Rachad; her brother Victor E. Shank, and his wife, Janis; niece Wendi, and her husband, Brian Smith; and nephew Scott Shank, and his wife, Jenny.

She is also survived by her brother in laws Morris Miller, and his wife, Linda, and Robert Miller, and his wife, Teresa; her sister in law Carole Jones and her husband, Bobby Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John E. Miller, Jr. and their infant daughter, Gloria D. Miller.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Sterling Care South Mountain for the past 19 months and the Meritus Medical Center CCU and 5 East Staff for their supportive care at the end, and her best friend, Ann Mazingo, who was like a sister. The nursing staff at DaVita Dialysis were always outstanding in their care of Gloria. She also had a great extended family on Ridge Avenue who made sure that she was cared for until her move to Sterling Care. Everyone always enjoyed their front porch "sittings" with her and John.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Salem Reformed Church, 13812 Salem Church Road, Hagerstown, with Pastor Eric Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow the service in the adjoining Church cemetery.
