On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, Virginia "Ginnie" Lee Griffis of Brunswick, MD, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother left us at the age of 91 to be with the Lord.
Ginnie was born July 6, 1928 as Virginia Lee Belt in Forest Glen, Montgomery County, Maryland, into a family with 3 sisters, Anna, Mary and Betty. She lived in the Wheaton area and worked at Equitable Savings and Loan in the 1960's where she was friendly with the customers and made many friends. She started as a teller and was promoted to the mortgage loan department to interview and process loan applications for potential home buyers. During that time she adopted her two grand daughters, Kelly and Angela "Angel", loved them, raised them and introduced them as her daughters. She supported her family by developing home businesses of teaching and selling ceramics, baking and decorating cakes, and creating and delivering floral arrangements known as Markel's House of Flowers. During her daughters' school years in the 1980's she worked as an accountant for Howard Kemmel of Kemtec of Silver Spring, MD, who had become a life long friend. Later she worked as an accountant for Russell Hayes Lighting in Rockville, MD.
In 2005 Ginnie moved to the Silver Springs area of Ocala, FL to be near Angel's family, which included 3 grandsons. The eldest grandson, Robie, cared for Ginnie in her new home. In 2016 both families returned to Maryland where they had family, friends and better job opportunities. They settled together near friends in Brunswick, MD.
Ginnie tithed to Faith Assembly of God and helped others, especially children, by donating to the In Touch Ministries, Boys Town, Sessions Missions, the Christian Appalachian Project and, because she loved dogs all of her life, the SPCA.
Ginnie was preceded in death by her Daughter, Linda Lee Riley of Wheaton, MD. She is survived by Daughters Kelly Lynn Weir (54) of Glen Burnie, MD, and Angela "Angel" Marie Tervakoski (Weir) (50) (Eric) of Brunswick, MD, and Great Grandsons Zachary Smith (17) of Columbia, MD, Robin (Robie) Bradford Potter, Jr. (27) (Tracy), Justin Andrew Weir (21), Kristian Aimo Tervakoski (16) and Great Great Grandson Odin William Holt Potter (15 mos) all of Brunswick, MD and Nieces Deborah Hall, Marlene Krediet and Great Niece Erin Danaher of Maryland.
Our family sends blessings and thanks to the medical staff of Frederick Memorial Hospital and Dr. Troy Mohler for the many times they treated Ginnie and helped our family.
